Alaska Disaster Response

The State of Alaska has received a Presidential Disaster Declaration for flooding along the Yukon and Kuskokwim Rivers.

Richard Whetsell, Alaska Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (AKVOAD), is asking for recovery help from Faith-based and Voluntary Agency partners. Help is needed in June 2009 at the village of Eagle which had about two dozen homes destroyed. Eagle is one of the few villages along the Yukon River that can be reached by road.

AKVOAD is helping arrange transportation to some of the more remote damaged villages.

For more information, contact AKVOAD Chair, Rev. Richard Whetsell, at whetsell@ak.net, mobile 907-398-2252 or Rev. L. George Abrams, INWCOAD Chair, LGAbrams@centurytel.net, 509-951-0983.
